DIONYSUS is the greek god of wine, son of Zeus. What meanings stand behind this band name?

First of all we didn′t want a childish name like Dragonfist or something.

We wanted a name that sounded mature cause we are no longer that young, i′m the youngest with my 28 years.

The name stand for wine and pleasure and i think our kind of music is in some way is connected to greek mythology. It was also important that it didn′t sounded like someone else.

You are a german/swedish alliance, please introduce us where all the members are coming from. Who is now still active in his former band?

I stared the band the same week as I quit Sinergy.

Olaf still sings for Luca.

Kaspar still play with Stormwind

But this don′t take more then some weeks per year for those bands to record so it′s no problem.

Johhny and Nobby comes from the ashes of Nation.

Does NATION still exist?

No. Actually some of the ideas of Johnnys songs comes from what was ment to be the third album of Nation before they split.

Ronny, in were in many bands. What kind of music do you want to creative with DIONYSUS now after you quit SINGERGY? What is "neoclassic guitar works"?

I am rasied and trained in classical music and got my diploma out of that kind of music.

when I compose i see the guitar in the same way as I see the violin in the orchestra.

I never sit down and riffing out a song so sometimes the guitar-arrangements and the chords are quite odd and also the harmonys so thats my view of neoclassical guitar work.

 

In which band is Jesper Stromblad now? He is a multi talent (Gitarre, Bass, Drums..) isnt he? Was he a DIONYSUS member?

No but we talked about to do some charity-thing but there is never any time for it.

Jesper is a very kind guy who helped me in so many ways.

I think he just plays in In flames nowdays.

 

What do you say to Progressive Power Metal and classic music (the real one, not this Keyboard shit)?

Hm.. I think metalmusic always have been opened to diffrent influences but the classical music may be more developed but still very oldfashion to new influences.

Is your CD the first production of Tobi Sammet? How was it with him, was he a big help for you? Was he also involved into your music, for example Guestvoc etc.?

Yes he sings a little backing here and there but as u hear it doesn′t sound edguy and that was his and our aim so we did pretty much all vocals by the band to get our own style.

Tobi is a very cool guy and a very good listener to our ideas.

he got some cool ideas but he never changed a full song or something, he knew what we wanted basicly.

 

How did you come on him to do the recording for you? Do you know him because of his AVANTASIA Project?

Actually he heard our demo and contacted afm about it that he was interested so we never asked him so it was a big houner for us!

 

On your Website, there is still written that you are looking for an record deal? How did you get in touch with AFM? The new CD will be released on November?

yes Nov. 11 and little earlier in japan around oct. 23.

 

Tell us something of the coming album. Which kind of lyrics do you have? Are there already any planes made up for a tour?

No plans for the tour yet.

About the lyrics they are NOT the basic "dragon in the sky"-theme.

It deals with our life and what this world is turning into.

There are some very serious subjects on this album as how people of today are brought up in unbeliaveble condtions.

It also deals with facts that we all will feel sometimes in our lifes but maby a lot of bands are maby a little afraid to bring up these kinda subjects as lonlieness for example.

Is DIONYSUS only a side project or was it planed to be a real band from the beginning? Is DIONYSUS now the main band for all members?

Yes its a real band cause we all signed the contract so we are all equal.

Its NOT my band or mine and olafs or something...noone playes on sessionbasis.

 

Do Olaf still singing for Luca Turilli? They will also release an album this year, wont they?

yes the month before i think.

 

With which language do you communicate usually? You dont live very close to each other, so how do you do practisice or even arrange songs?

thank god we live near the airport ha,ha

Usally its english but swedish and german have almost the same words so sometimes olaf understand when we speak swedish.

 

DIONYSUS member were in good bands, NATION, SINERGY, IN FLAMES, Luca Turilli etc. What is the difference between these and you now?

This is more mature and more melodic but also more agressive. I think the biggest diffrence is it has more dynamics musicly.

Do you think there are visible differences between US Power Metal and European Power Metal?

If yes, which attitute do you like or dislike?

Is there any US power metal? ha,ha

The europeans are way before in the development of the music.

How do you see todays development of Power Metal? Compared to the 80s, is nowerdays Power Metal Boom only a revival or even a revolution?

its a mixture i think. I think it has more quality today, the musicans are better for an example.We didn′t had anything like rhapsody back in the eighties.

 

Like at the high period of any Genre, also many Power Metal bands today are very similar to each other as well in songwriting and voc lines. Do you have problem to find your own style?

No!

For one reason:

My life didn′t look like most of the bands from lets say hamburg so of cause my music will reflect my life wich is/was.. very diffrent.

 

Some how, to be honest, the Demosong "Time will tell" reminds on a mixture of VOICE and EDGUY. How do you see this?

I think tobi and me listen a lot to abba, yes it could be. Voice i never heard.

 

Tell me more about the musical "The Conspiracy", Joacim Cans (Hammersfall) also wrote a song lyric for your album?

yes he wrote the lyrics for "The bringer of war" wich will continue the song "bringer of salvation" but BOW will be on the second album!

Th musical is something that we will record probably after our next albums and tours.

Joacim is a very close friend of mine and we love to work together as sooon there is some time left for it!

 

Do you know much about far east culture? Did you ever hear something of chinese metal?

Actually no. :-(

We dont hear that much about china in the western world but hopefully time will change that, lets hope it will!!!!
