Why did you name your band as "CARPATHIAN FOREST", you arent that much into romanian folklore/vampires sagas but more into antichristianism, arent you?
When we started the band, I were 16 years old, back then I read a lot about Romanian history and different vampire mythology. I was fascinated by this theme, but it soon changed. It is death and true life subjects I`m writing about in the last 10 years. I still like obscure vampire stuff, but more in a modern cannibalistic ways. Like happens in real life Killings. Great.
So long time after your 1st demo" Bloodlust & Perversion" in 1992 for waiting, and you had released your debut album in 1998, do you have other reheared\demo or gigs trax during the blank?
Very little now. I used to have bunch of old stuff laying around, but they are more or less been re recorded in recent years. We created very many songs whilewe were laying low for different reasons. The communication and Friendship in this band have never been good. WE play Black metal, and this music style have never been about friendship. It is a individual egoistic trip were all focus is extremly narrow-minded and it fucking should be..
"Strange Old Brew" and "Morbid Fascination Of Death" were release as two piece concept alben, what was the concept about? A tribute to death (which death?)...
Which Death?? Huh, all fucking death, from disease to suicides. I want my lyrics and music to be as true to the roots as possible. And Honest towards my views and visions. I embrace the filth and coldness which surrounds death. Life is cruel and whimsical and it should be so. It is a result of the absence of god really. Greedy, corrupt, unfriendly, cold, suicidal, murderous etc etc.. It all sums up ourexistance.
You kept silence for so long since the band has been started and covered the band with a mysterious secretness. Why so much publicities all of a sudden?
WE have never directly disappeared, we just choose to stay away. We still do. Our Former member Nordavind had strange ideas interviews and live shows and how to stay really low in the musical terrain. I fitted our style and approach fora while, but in my oppinion it was never a clever decision. WE also need to be out there amongst all shitty bands who are so soulless. WE are the collector of human filth and we want to represent the worst in life!!! Let all gay bands sing their totally pathetic, useless fantasy lyrics. I have chosen to STAY away from this so-called B.M circus. It`s like disneyland nowadays. I WANT TO VOMIT. WE are not meant as a social centre, friendships MEAN Nothing, Nothing.
The very content of your lyrics are very obscure, are these just some fun making? You are not serious with what you are singing of, are you?
Of course I am, I just like to streech things a bit to get the point out. My lyrics can be interpret in many ways. It`s not up to me what people get out of it. Most people are stupid, I don`t expect them to understand the meaning fully anyway. I also like to include some black humour/irony, again people don`t catch it all. It`s very internal stuff, a bit easy to misunderstand the whole of it. I just like to have self-experienced stuff in my lyrics or as close to the fact as possible. I like to throw in christian sluts into the music to make the final provokation complete.
The both of you are quiet famous for your "special" manner and personality, I know you don’t like to make compromises. But with the new albums release you will need to face the whole business stuffs like promotion thing, do you feel well about answering silly peoples questions?
No, not to much. But again I feel we must answer the most of them. The worst teenager anal idiots I don`t answer of course. I am not wasting my time on idiots. Some interviews and some question are to stupid to answer. I don`t want to communicate with monkeys, sheeps or cows hehe!!!!! The promotion is up to the boring labels. I don`t like live shows to much either, but sometimes we do them. I hate it. I hate to tour, but sometimes it`s nessesary. Just a few shows a year is ok for me, nothing more. I hate to socialize and prefer to be left alone. I find comfort in solitude. I hate people`s noises and oppinions.
You didn’t have much live gigs in the past, now you will have to show up on stage more often to promote the band and your new release. Do you feel uncomfortable to perform your music live? How is the general reaction of your visitors?
I don`t know and I don`t care. C.F shows can be both bad or good. It depends on the day, sometimes we communicate very badly which effects the playing. I hate to rehearse, we only do it once or twice a year, which is fucking enough for me. In future I will only sing on the show, but there will not be many anyway. We will do some festivals. one or two I think. More than enough.
Due to the new album we noticed some additional musicians in CF’s music making, such as a Saxophone player and professional female singer... will this lead you into some kind of chances in your music?
No, I just felt for it there and then. It fitted into out music, so it was natural to use it. The wierd saxophone player have been on almost all our albums, not the first one. I find jazz music very obscure and dark, almost violent sometimes. Not all jazz is good, but there are some great moods in there. Jazz is timeless, it has profound soul. When I make an album I don`t want it be fast from the beginning to the end, I like the rollercoaster feeling. And that`s what I`m trying to do with this band. Create different moods, not just one.
how do you define CF's music yourselves? You claim to be the last defender of the true black metal, so what is your understanding of black metal?
I wanted an arrogant title this time, more arrogant than before. We are still doing it the "OLD" way, and I don`t like to comprimise at all. Black Metal as music is very very watered-out these days, with many stupid sub-titles. B.M is meant to be cold and misanthropic, the word satanic will always be difined differently from person to person. It is a music style which craves very clear frames, and those is not meant to be fucked with. So many bands were very bombastic in their beliefs before and now they are just a weak image of themselves. Speaking very contradictive of their former beliefs which they said only a couple of years ago. For most People it`s just a circus. And it has always been like this. A FUCKING GAME!!! A veil of falseness covers their whole aura. It`s obvious who they are. FUCK!! That why I don`t want to have nothing to do with people. As little as possible. But there are indeed true people out there too. 99% of all is useless vacuum-minded mastubators from planet HOMO SEXUAL..
You are taking distance to the so called commercial black metal bands like DIMMU OF FILTH cause you think they are no real black metal, so my question is: what are the most important rules for Black Metal?
I don`t like to comment which bandsI like or not, it`s quite obvious. Most important rules????? I Don`t know what is important for other bands, I couldn`t care less. Hamsters???? To look gay?? It`s enough to stay anti-christian and be a misanthrope and kill hamsters and not to look gay. Ngh!!
Do you think there still are any necessarities for the existence of death metal/grindcore/punk?
I don`t follow any scene, so I don`t care about it. It`s all watered-out. What was punk before isn`t punk anymore, the same goes for Death Metal or whatever music. When I hear that slipknot is Death Metal something is very wrong. I don`t want to hear anymore new music or anything..
What kind of things are equally important for you beside music?
Walking into majestic nature, that heals the soul a bit, just to fucking walk and breathe the air of woods. aarrghh great times. I must out there again soon. Soulfull journeys fucking rule, more than music, more than anything. Maybe not sadistic violent sex, but very close.
What is your opinion on topics like "suicide" or "weakness"?
Cool, real shit. which happens two times a day in Norway. WE are very high on the suicide rates world wide, only topped by Finland. Suicides can of course be a sign of weakness, but reasons for doing it are plain stupid and pathetic. In some cases where a person have really thought it over, again and again. For them it can be good to get rid of the human burden. You haven`t decided yourself to get born, a person should chose when he wishes and how he wishes to die. A natural decision, to leave this planet when he choses to.
Do you think there are more effective alternative way to fight against christianity beside terrorism or blasphemial stuffs? I know you are quiet not befrieded with Grishnak's policy of antichristianity...
Of course the ways are eternal, no fucking limits. I support many destructive ways, but not when it crosses over to the stupid and absurd. And many Black metallers are stupid and absurd, it`s only in the mouth and NOT in action. And some people are just lame and contradictive idol-searching/idol-worshipping fools. Totally lost on the wrong path. Forgetting the individual strenght of the ego.
I am wrong of thinking "antichristianism equals satanism"?
It`s still the same branch, but maybe others in the way of litterature. Very individualistic and difficult to define. A huge dicussion matters which never leads nowhere on the path..
What I dont quiet understand about antichristianism is, dont you have to accept the existence of christianism first to fight back? Your position then will only be the opposition of something you want to delete. I think that is something sad to be your enemy's shadow... I know I am wrong with it, but I want to know your position to this...
The bible hold both answer, and both wouldn`t exist without each other of course. The way and the will is quite similar, just inverted more or less. I don`t see the reason to go further or deeper on this matter.
You are a nationalist, but you claim on not to be a nazi, so what is the difference due to black metal? How do you see the right wing tendencies of norwagian black metal?
I don`t care about the tendencies of Norwegian B.M.. I am nationalistic in some ways, but it doesn`t crosses the borders to Nazism. Far from it. I am proud of being Norwegian and I don`t like to mix race, because they areall so different. I don`t believe in living together in a colourful society. But I am not a racist, I have coloured "Friend". I treat all people exactly like. I don`t even like Norwegians, but that does not make me racist. I don`t like most people, nothing directly personal, but I want most of them to FUCK OFF. I want to be left alone. People who can`t think always have problem to seperate nationalism, nazism and racism. It`s NOT difficult. And anyway, I HATE POILITICS..
We first got promotional info for your new album form Avangard Music, then all of a sudden we got the CD from Seasons of mist. Why did you changed the label? Was the "10 years anniversary" album a pure optional release by Avangard music that you are not quiet comfortable with?
It was the last album on our contract with Avantgarde, it was supposed to be a MCD, but I wanted to give the Fans and followers of the band to have something more than just a stupid MCD. And it wasa better way to make something out of our 10 years as a band. Put some live songs on it, cover songs and other more obscure stuff. We had "Defending the Throne of Evil" ready, but I didn`t want to have the new songs on the "Decade..." album. They are different, than the rock`n roll fuck you style of "Decade..".
Both you and ex-Bass Nordavind were the master minds of CF, what was the main reason for ihm to leave?
He played the guitar, but anyway.. We are both very difficult to work with. We are still friends, he sings on my solo album NATTEFROST-"Blood and Vomit" on two songs. We have always had different ideas what`s "Good" for the band. He bought a house far from people, he wanted to be left alone. I envy him and his old grim house. He think playing in a band is to much stress. I agree with him in his decision, to much stress. He wouldn`t fit into the band anymore, who knows??
Tell me more about the song "The old house on the hill", were you trying to tell a little horror story?
I just wanted to describe a loner, and sick masturbators. There are people like that in every city. Some grimmer than other, but child-molesting maniacs and murderers. It`s based on real-lifeshit I have read in the papers. My former Landlord was a pedophile, he was old and he did it in the 60`ies. The grim face of reality.
Also the last song "gold murderous music", what are you singing about?
The label write it wrong, "Cold muderous music", That is about suicidal matters and Heroin abuse. Back ground music. I have had some very destructive friends. True haters of life, heroin abusers. Not dealing with reality, and escape into the world of Hard drugs. Very easy if you don`t worship life. It`s just background music to Death. Why struggle to much, it`s easier to snuff it. A reflecting song, about death.. Nothing new in other words.
You come from a land of eternal winter, was it weird to record the new album in the late summer's heat of south france (Terje/Sound Suite Studios)?
YES!! But all C.F recordings are fucked-up shit. chaotic. It was a bit wierd NOT to record outside Norway. But I knew Terje and like to work with him. I don`t like all Goth bands recording there, HATE THEM TOTALLY. But he never dare to try that on us. I think It doesn`t matter where we record our albums, they will be obscure anyways. The next album will be more harsher and violent I can garantee..
